Spring has arrived in Bloomington with the emergence of plants gone dormant over the winter, unpredictable weather that cycles between storms and sunshine, and graduates celebrating their accomplishments and moving on to the next leg of their life’s journey.
This has also been at time of uncertainty and anxiety for many due to recent actions to freeze grant funding or to question international student visa status. Like your home school, we are committed to supporting you and helping you navigate any difficulties you encounter. If you have questions or concerns, we encourage you to contact your director of graduate studies or graduate administrator, the , and our office for assistance.
Graduate-Professional Student Appreciation Week is this week and activities taking place in and around campus to recognize the contributions, impact, and value of graduate and professional students. The Graduate School will provide continental breakfast in the Graduate Commons of the Wells Library (Room 856 in the East tower) April 7-11th from 9-10:30 am. Each morning representatives from different resources of interest to graduate students will be present. Come for coffee, breakfast and conversation, or maybe just an excuse to find the Graduate Commons, a space exclusively set aside for graduate students in the Wells Library! of events organized by your home school.
The Graduate School continues to expand access to resources for career and professional development. Two excellent and popular online career resources, provided by the , are coming to IU Bloomington. Soon you will find links to their Beyond the Professoriate and Beyond Graduate School websites on our . These platforms provide on-demand courses tailored to PhD and master’s student experiences, while the Graduate Career Success team offers live webinars each semester, all to help you explore options and develop strategies for effective job searches. We will also be continuing our this summer. The application deadline is May 8. Space is limited, so apply soon!
And don’t forget, April 15th is the deadline for filing taxes in the United States. Understanding tax laws and regulations can be difficult and we regularly receive questions, especially from international students. Information and resources can be found on the , the and the .

| Academic Application Process & Preparation (Academic APPs) Institute | Embark on a journey to tackle the academic application process with our second annual workshop series, “Academic Application Process & Preparation” or “Academic APPs.” This series is designed with a focus on academic professions and aims to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare a suite of academic pathway application documents and to apply insights to interviewing. We’ll meet in-person from 1–4 PM over a week, June 2nd – 9th in Wells Library, East Tower, Hazelbaker room (SC-E159).
We will cover: • Curriculum Vitae (CVs)
• Cover Letters
• Research Statements
• Teaching Statements
• Considerations for Interviewing
Expect to: • Spend time reviewing each of these materials, discussing their purpose, and understanding what makes them effective.

• Engage in peer reviews, providing and receiving constructive feedback.

Nature Portfolio's flagship publication is Nature, a weekly multidisciplinary journal first published in 1869. Nature Masterclasses began as a provider of scientific writing and publishing training and now offers on-demand training in scientific storytelling, data management, research collaboration, and scientific writing and publishing. Most courses are structured as several bite-sized (10-20 minute) lessons. Through the IU School of Medicine, all IU graduate students and postdocs . | The Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning - Spring Programming | IU Bloomington is a member of the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL), which was founded in 2003 by 43 universities in the USA and Canada. The CIRTL Network provides programming for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars facilitated by member institutions, including courses, workshops, events, and communities. | The GradGrants Center (GGC) "Introduction to Grant Proposal Writing Boot Camp" | is an online, Canvas-based course that will help you develop and organize grant proposal essentials for current and future use. The boot camp includes weekly readings and assignments to guide you through the basic principles of grant writing and help you develop a basic draft of a proposal. By the end of the boot camp, participants will have a proposal with the fundamental components of most grants. Because many grants have specific requirements, some revision of your draft is necessary when applying. This course is free to all IUB Graduate Students and runs from February 17th - April 14th.
